I remember the first time I had pizza has a child it blew my mind, all the flavours were new to me. It was a home made pizza the ingredients were not exotic gourmet products, in fact I can tell you that it was a home made sauce with tomato, ketchup, garlic, onion, salt black pepper, parsley and basil. The dough was a basic flour yeast salt sugar and oil type. The toppings were onions, sweet peppers, tomatoes frankfurters and white cheddar cheese. She was guided by either Cooking The Italian Way or The Joy Of Cooking that part is not very clear this many tears later. Basic but delicious this was what started my love affair with pizza.
Having started life with a high quality fresh pizza my first time eating mass produced fast food pizza was good but not mind blowing. I had to seek out a small mom and pop store to get the right pizza feeling. However while I waited I learnt to make a decent pizza myself with a variety of meats and cheeses.
